Human Trafficking: What is it?

Human trafficking is an almost invisible issue, as it happens in plain sight, yet it is one of the most prominent issues present in the world today. Human trafficking is the forcing and exploitation of human beings to perform labor or sex acts. It is a form of modern-day slavery, as it exploits others, especially the poor and vulnerable in society. Anyone can be a victim of trafficking, regardless of race, economic status, age, gender, level of education, or sexual orientation. Victims are often lured by their trafficker in promises of better work or love, but they are then taken advantage of and abused. There are different forms of human trafficking, including sex trafficking, forced labor, and debt bondage, however sexual exploitation is the most common type.
